WHY WE DECIDED TO MAKE MANGROVE NURSERY

First of all, our country Malaysia is responding to the international calling for sustainability, ESG, CSR  project and etc that involving sustainability. Also, going to 2030, Malaysia aim to be sustainable country like any first world country that are already have its sustainability.


so, we accept the call because it is important to keep our natural resources and maintaining our economy. Mangrove tree is very special because it keep our costal safe and the tree it self is a breading site for many animal. There is a lot of biodiversity on that tree especially on the root because its provide breading ground and habitat for many fisheries and other animals.

mangrove tree have various different type depending on their environment. In Sarawak, there are divided to mainly three type which is Avicenna spp.(black mangrove), Sonneritia spp. (apple mangrove), and Rhizophora spp. (red mangrove). Red mangrove seed are called propagule. Most of the seed shape are elongated and the colour are red/green.

These propagule are easily found at almost all local beach. after some reading  and research, we decided that we want to build our own nursery focusing on cultivating mangrove seedling starting from mangrove propagule. with establishment of our nursery, we can help to nurture mangrove sapling and these sapling we can supply to any agencies that wanted to make CSR project on reforestation. In future, we wanted to make our nursery to be open to public and spreading awareness about mangrove forest and how to sustain it.

it is about 2 month in cultivating our red mangrove propagule. In the first month, we experiment on what suitable medium for the propagule to grow. firstly we separate into two medium which is saltwater with sand beach and freshwater with no substrate  but it kind of very slow progress. After 1 week in a half we found there were a lot of black dot ,the water has odor and the water is very cloudy or brackish water  . we thought that maybe the propagule want to sprout root and we wait again for another week. after that a small white soft root were germinating on some propagule as shown below after the germination of the root, we thinking of changing the substrate. AQUARIUM MANGROVE

 Have you ever thought on mangrove tree inside Aquarium?? here some inspo from google at first we thought that , it is impossible to put a big tree in an aquarium but some people do it. and the lighting making so beautiful. there are benefit to put mangrove inside aquarium the benefit are: 1) they absorb NO2 from your fish tank 2) provide more natural habitat for your fish and reef 3) also will foster good microorganism, algae, fungi to your tank 4) it also filter your water tank for us, if you have mangrove tree in your house, you are already carbon offsetting and making your home more "livable". in a world that focusing on sustainability, you are already helping the world to reduce carbon emission. also, you are creating a new sustainable habitat for your fish / reef tank.  right now we are collecting supply for making our own mangrove aquarium. stay update for our aquarium👀
